Ashley James----------------------------------------------------- The song 'what hurts the most' rang through Ashley's head as she stopped her truck in the parking spot. She would have never thought she would ever have to hear the words she was told this morning. Tears rolled out of her eyes as she sat, her hands on the steering wheel, knuckles turning white. Why did this have to happen to her? She kept her foot on the break, not ready to put the truck in park. She could feel her breathing coming and going, each breath making it harder and harder. These things did not happen to her, apparently she was wrong.
After sitting for a couple minutes she moved one hand and place the truck in park, turning the truck off. She did not want to be at the stable, or in her dorm. She never wanted people to see her broken, with her guard down. It was one of her only flaws, not letting people in when she needed them the most. She had her hair down, natural curls flowing past her shoulders. Her white dress was loose around her legs, comfortable. This was what she was going to wear to school, but now she did not want to go anywhere.
Ashley glanced around, seeing barley anyone around, after all, school had already started. She wiped her eyes, getting rid of the tears that fell down her face. She grabbed her keys and got out of the truck, walking toward the water. She did not suspect anyone around, and she knew the teachers would not recognize her if they saw her. She walked down a path she had never been down, it was her first time at the lake. She kept having to hold back the tears as she walked down the path, seeing the trees changing color, leaves falling. If she was in her normal state, she would be jumping around, smiling and laughing.
She made her way down the path, seeing a dock coming into view. Anyone that saw her would know she was a mess. She figured she had her make-up running down her face, and she was walking weird cause the tears where making it hard to see. It was opposite of how she usually was, but no one knew her anyways. Once she got to the dock she sat, or as some would say fall gracefully, on the edge of the dock, leaning against one of the posts. She had one leg folded under the other, which was hanging off the dock. She looked out toward the water, the silence soothing for her. It was then that she broke down, tears running down her face at a constant pace. She could feel her heart breaking into a million pieces, making it hard to breathe. Her scream broke the quiet silence the lake held. She wanted so bad to talk to someone, yet at the same time she was afraid to.

Skipping class. That only went with one word: routine. Quin's routine everyday was to find a way to skip class. That was a challenge, and it made school life a whole lot more fun than it usually was. This was good, in fact, since so far nothing interesting had ever happened with Quin. Except that breakout with Giselle. And the arrival of JJ. And that incident with Tobi. Alright, maybe he did have a rather complex life at the moment. But still, Quin would definitely keep skipping class to get the whole feel for fun and of course, to avoid learning. Learning was not fun. At all. Quin had faked a fever in the morning, using a hairdryer to heat his head, ask his roommate to feel his forehead and that was that. The boy actually though Quin had a fever. After the first bell, Quin made it out of the school and intended on going to the mall. Yeah, the mall. Unexpectedly, the male had ended up at Osmond Lake. Why? Because that’s just how he was. You intend to go to the Foxtrot trail, you end up in the girl’s dorm. You want to head to the horse stalls, you reach the common area. You want to go to the mall, you end up here. That was him, and that was the usual. But what was unusual today was that there was another person near the lake. It was a girl, probably not much older than the junior himself. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, a little like Quin himself except that his own hair was dark. Cautiously, he walked closer to her only to notice that she had been crying. Though a womanizer and a rogue-like child, Quin had a heart in the right place. ”Hey… you okay there?” he asked, worried.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ Ashley sat on the edge of the dock, tears streaming down her face. she had her hands in her lap, playing around with her bracelet. She thought this was going to be a good year, one she would never forget. Unfortunately this was true, but it was for a bad reason.
She was always the girl that wore bright colors, and always had a smile on her face. That was just how she always was, barley ever unhappy. She loved to have fun, and laughed like no other. This was a rare scene for her, one barley anyone has ever witnessed.
She had on leg hanging off the dock, sitting silently. She was past the anger stage at the moment, now she was just quiet. She could hear the wind blowing threw the trees, the water gently lapping on the dock pillars. She heard a sound that did not belong though. She glanced over her shoulder to see a guy walking closer to her. She had seen him once or twice in the last couple weeks, but never talked to him before. She noticed he had the same color eyes as her, even though hers at the moment where red and puffy from crying. She wiped the tears from under her eyes. She got startled slightly when he spoke, having to catch herself so she did not fall into the water. She looked at him, seeing he was somewhat concerned.
Was she ok? the was a question she knew she would be asked. That was always a humans first instinct, asking if your ok, are you alright. She sighed and slightly laughed at herself, feeling numb. She sighed and looked back at her hands. "Not really." She had to choke it out of her throat, having to wipe the tears out of her eyes. "Thanks for asking though. Nice to hear someones voice around here." the words came out somewhat easier even though she still could not talk like normal. Even through all the pain she felt through her body, her words still held a friendly tone.

Smiling a little at her reply, Quin looked at the girl in front of him, eyeing her carefully. She was in the least, completely ‘un-okay’. He sighed, finding it in himself to sit down beside the girl, swinging his legs around the bottom.
The problem with Quin is that he wasn’t much of a good comforter, so he gulped, turning away and cupping his hands around the back of his head. He stared at the girl, averting his eyes and wondering what to say. She was crying, obviously, but Quin had no idea what to do about it. After all, he himself needed a relationship counselor.
A tiny smirk planted on his face as he thought of the Spanish girl who spoke so oddly but always made sense at the end. What would she do? Quin looked back at the blonde, patting her shoulder and saying awkwardly, ”there, there.”
It made him sound horribly soft, but for some reason Quin’s rogue-like self wasn’t really being shown at the moment. He was a flirt; a big one in fact. But something about this girl made him stop. ”Do you wanna talk about it?” he asked cautiously, smiling yet frowning. It wasn’t often the school’s little playboy was tongue-tied.
Inside, he half hoped that she wouldn’t need to talk about it, since ‘there there’ was all he had as a comforting phrase. But he also wished for her to explain, and maybe he’d feel better. He smiled at her, not a wide, flirty Casimire smirk, but a soft and humble smile, inviting her to tell her story.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ Ashley sat playing with her bracelet once more. why did life have to be so difficult. She watched out of the corner of her eye as the guy sat near her. Usually she would not want people around, she built a wall when she was upset, and would not let anyone in. It was one of her flaws, but she wanted to change it. She could tell his guy was not in the most comfortable position, but she thought it was nice of him to stay.
As small laugh emitted from her as she heard the 'there there'. she looked at him, a half smiled on her face. "Thanks." she said it kindly. It seemed comforting was not his thing, but she gave him props for trying.
She then looked out to the water, wiping the tears from her eyes. Her eyes seemed to be drying up for the tears had stopped for a while. She took a deep breath, pushing her blond curls out of her face. She glanced at the guy as she heard him talk. There was something about him, something she did not understand. She usually would just say she was fine and walk away, but with him she seem..different. She glanced at her hands then back to him. "Ah..yea im no so good at that." she laughed slightly at herself. It was the truth for her.
She sat for another minute, then looked at the guy once more. She then realized what he really looked like. Before it was just glances, but she took the time to actually look. He was a good looking guy, one she would usually not talk to cause they would ignore her. This day was just getting weirder and weirder. She snapped out of her gazing then looked out at the water. "Have you ever lost someone?" her voice broke at the word lost, but you could still understand the last word. she never thought she would have to use that line, at least not for a long time.

Quin sighed lightly, nodding his head sheepishly at his feeble attempt at a comforting moment. He honestly needed couple of lessons. Maybe he could book an appointment with Tobi this Saturday…
Shrugging it off, he stared across the lake, sunlight reflecting of the waves in the teal water. The tiny, occasional splash by the pier could be heard, causing Quin to feel a little more trying with his comforting technique.
When she told him she wasn’t good with that, he was a bit relieved, since well, ‘there there’ was all he had. The boy gave a tiny smile, leaning back on the dock with his palms supporting him. He looked around, eyes landing back on her.
She was a rather pretty girl, but Quin remained confused as to why she was here and even more, why she was crying. He bit his bottom lip, answering her question with a slightly nervous inhale. ”Yeah… my parents.” Quin had lost both his folks in a fire long ago, and it hadn’t really bothered him much.
But it certainly had an effect that made him who he was: carefree, a little violent, and a loss when it came to comfort, because he had never gotten the sufficient amount of it when he was younger.
Wondering what the girl intended to say, Quin stared at her with a quizzical look. ”And you?” It seemed that the thing making her cry had something to do with losing someone, and now Quin was more than curios.
He had lost his family, after all, and could empathize with the girl.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ Sitting on the dock helped her relax more. It could have been the guy sitting there too. It seem to help with just the feeling of someone around. In her mind, actions speak louder then words. He did not have to sit with her, that put a plus in her mind. It seemed he was not good at talking about feelings, or comforting people, so she did not want to go on and on.
It was nice to hear the sound of the water, made her think of holiday trips with the family. The sound of waves would have been better, but she settled for the light sound of the water around her. She watches as the guy leaned back on his hands, she thought maybe he was bored. she wouldn't blame him, she did not like silence, usually.
She watched as he answered her question. She did not know how to judge his reaction to the answer. Her body had gone numb now, not really feeling pain, or anger, or anything. She was surprised how her moods changed in just this short amount of time. She looked down at her hands, then back to him when he asked his question. "Ya, seems we have something in common as of this morning." yes it was true, the haunting phone call no kid wants to hear came to her early in the morning. "Car accident. My dads gone, and my moms in the hospital. They say she probably wont last the night." She had to look away from him, taking a deep breath. She took one hand and wrapped it around her stomach, trying to hold it together.
After a minute she relaxed a little, then looked back to him halfway laughing. "Sorry. if you want to leave i don't blame you. Who wants to stick around a girl that cant hold it together." She took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. She really wouldn't blame him if he left, but deep down she wanted him to stay. It was nice to have him around, even though he did not say much.

Quin had no idea what to do now. The melancholy of tears had stopped, but it didn’t caress her emotions and it was obvious that she was still more than sad. Quin placed his hand on her back, not quite sure what to say. He gently smoothed his left palms on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze while smiling.
He looked down at his lap after she relaxed a little, squinting at the pattern on his jeans, thoughts far off. ”I do.” he said gently, in response to her retort, hand still on her shoulder. He gave it a pat, smiling and adjusting his position. He turned to face her, one leg on the dock while the other still hung loosely under.
Staring at the girl, Quin noted that she seemed uneasy and numb, so he got up, offered his hand out for her and used his head to gesture at the surroundings. ”Come on, we should take a walk.” His hand still held out, he leaned down a little for her to take it.
Walking around endlessly had sometimes been Quin’s only form of comfort, and of course, he intended to help the girl out of her nightmare. When you did nothing but sit, it could harm you. Well, that’s what the medical examiner of a Spencer said.
Still smiling, Quin prompted her to stand and walk around.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ She glanced at the guy not really knowing what to do. It was hard for her, talking about how she felt when she was sad. This guy seemed to be the only one able to break down some of the wall, it was like he was saying everything without saying anything. She felt his hand on her shoulder and she looked at him, a half smile on her face. She was half surprised when she head him answer her rhetorical question. This day was defiantly one for the books.
She watched him adjust his position, kind looking like her. Difference was he was not a mess. She figured her make-up was all over the place, but for once, she did not care. She was surprised again to see him stand and hold out his hand. "um..ok."She smiled and hesitantly touched his hand and pulled herself up. She awkwardly had to lean on him for a second to catch her balance, sitting and crying for that long messes with the head for a minute. She was a little embarrassed, but moved back a foot or two from him, starting to walk, trying to keep pace with him. "um..so I'm Ashley by the way." her words where mostly back to normal, the numbness still taking over her body.

Quin smiled at her when she got up; it showed that she wasn’t really the whole sulky type. He supported and steadied the girl, adjusting her as she got up. He grinned, beginning to walk off the dock and onto the soft grass beside the lake.
Picking up a decently flat stone along the way, Quin walked along, still a little lost with the words. When the girl spoke again, Quin realized he had forgotten to introduce himself. He smiled at her, stepping back a bit. Thrusting his arms wide open, Quin gave a foolish grin, bowed lightly and looked at her, right hand on his collarbone. ”Jacob Casimire Quinto, or Quin if you will.” he said in a jokingly posh manner.
Getting up from his bow, he smirked and shrugged. It was his usual introduction, which made quite a couple of people wonder just what on Earth he thought he was doing. That was okay; if you didn’t act crazy every once in a while, you never get to feel free of boundaries.
Walking along, he threw the flat rock he had earlier picked up across the water, watching it skip once, twice and thrice. Smiling, he picked another up and handed it to Ashley. ”You can try,” he smiled, though a little unsure if she found these things fun.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ She felt so different from herself, it was like a whole other person. She was glad someone had found her out here though, it was nice to be around someone that did not know her that well. She felt like she did not have to be anybody, not having to try to put on a happy face. She watches as the guy picked up a rock, she did not really know what to say. Once she noticed he had drifted back she looked over at him, curious of what he was going to do. She did not mean to, but she started to laugh lightly at his introduction. She wasn't being rude, she just thought he was being a clown. "Nice to meet you Jacob Quinto, or should i say Quin." She smiled. It was weird, she laughed through her numbness.
She wished she was that creative at introductions. she was really happy he was here now, he made her laugh. She watched the flat rock skip across the water a few times. She was never able to get a stupid rock to skip across the water. When he offered, she kinda laughed. "Im not that talented. I'll give it a try though." She took the rock gently from Quin and flipped it through her fingers a few times. She then attempted to skip it, though it just made a thud into the water. She laughed at herself and looked up at Quin. She tilted her head slightly and smiled. "See, not that talented." Horses she could do anything with, give her anything else and it was a disaster in the making.

Shrugging his shoulders to himself as Ashley laughed, Quin picked up another rock –which means he now held two– and smiled. His introductions were normally made to make people smile or laugh… though once or twice it backfired and made people think he was mentally ill. The waiting rooms in those hospitals are always so crammed. Quin shuddered at the memory.
When Ashley took the stone and threw it, Quin smiled a little and shook his head in mock disappointment. He took the other rock he had and threw it into the air, catching it and looking at Ashley. ”I’ll show you.” His statement was straight out and somewhat insisting.
Standing next to her, he bent a little and twisted his arm across, gently flinging it into the water with one, two, three skips. He grinned, picking up yet another, handing it to Ashley and holding her hand as he placed it there.
”Hold the tip, like… that and just throw it gently.” He adjusted her finger’s position on the rock as he said so, letting go of her hand while he waited for her to make a throw.

..::Ashley James::..::..You Never Know What You Got Till Its Gone..:: ------------------------------------------------------------ Ashley stood, smiling as he shook his head at her attempt to throw the rock. She had been told how to do it once or twice, she just never got it down. It like shocked her body a little, making her look down at her feet for a min. Memories got to her, but she snapped back as soon as Jacob decided to show her how to do it. She studied his body movement carefully, subconsciously moving her body like him.
she watched as he picked up another rock, watching him curiously. She laughed a little when he was trying to move her fingers about the rock. This was a first for her, someone actually setting her hand to throw a rock. She kept a smile on, it was nice to feel the touch of someone for once. She listened to his words, trying to make sure she would do it right. She then tried her attempt again at throwing again, this time actually making some progress. This time the rock skipped twice then plumped into the water. She smiled and clapped a little, becoming more of her usual goofy self. She then stopped and looked at Jacob. "yay! your a good teacher.!!"
She proceeded to pick up another rock, one she thought looked like a throwing rock. She then tried to throw again, the rock again skipping twice. She smiled and looked at Jacob. She was always excited when she learned something new. She looked out to the water, then back to Jacob. "So....Do you ride? Or do you just go to school here?" She never remembered seeing him in the barns, but then again, the barn was big.

(SORRY! I just finished my year-end examination.)
Quin smiled at Ashley when she made her throw, showing progress and improvement. He laughed at her joy, shaking his head and giving her a small pat on the back. At her exclamation of him being a good teacher, Quin smirked but replied ”No, it's always in the student and their will to learn.”
He watched her as she chose a proper shaped rock, again throwing it and making two beautiful skips. He nodded slightly with his approval, looking out to the ripple they had caused across the silent, still lake.
At her next question, Quin shrugged, walking and standing at her other side, turning sideways so he faced her, and replied, ”I’ve applied for one of the school horses… Cammy, to be exact.”
The junior smiled, looking round the lake and quite happy now that the girl was no longer crying. He hated it when people cried, because it just meant that there was another unhappy soul in the world. ”What about you?” he asked, looking at Ashley again.
