Janelle 'JJ' Mantegna
Janelle really didn't like this. Being a freshman, that is. It was only less than a week ago she had graduated from grade school. Now she had to begin high school, from the bottom. It just wasn't fair! After all those years of working hard through lessons and being top student, now she was the youngest. The smallest.
And that was NOT okay. She laughed to herself. Maybe all this first day pressure just really got to her. So far, she hadn't been called tiny, even though she was one of the youngest. JJ stood at the begrudging height of five feet three, which was really really annoying at times.
Oh well, life isn't always a fairytale. Being short wasn't so bad. At least she could do what she wanted; like climbing up pipes and trees for instance. Her height made it easier to fling herself up, although being tall would mean she didn't nedd to fling. Ok, maybe being short had no advantages at all.
JJ had been through do many unappealing things that day: application forms, reccomendations and transcripts. Sigh... She was a smart kid, so it wasn't very heard to get accepted. She spoke eight different languages, excluding English. She had a slightly big ego, but she never let it get the best of her, unless to annoy a specific person purposefully. To clear her clouded mind, JJ headed to the stables, desperate to see her horse, White Winter Sonnet.
She opened the stable doors with utter eagerness to see her equine. The stables had a strong scent that smelt of warm spring day and fresh, yellow barn hay. And horses. She spotted her bright Morgan and greeted the mare with a warm hello. “Hey Juliet,” she said, her Brooklyn accent landing a sharpening on her t, “how're you liking your new home?”
Janelle picked up Juliets's curry brush, stroking the mare's velvet nose before walking over to her side, always her free hand stroked her first before she used the brush, moving it in circular formations to shake out the dust and, if any, shedding hair. JJ stepped away from her white equine after the stroking was done, she tucked away the curry brush into her grooming kit and picked out a normal one. She stroked and brushed off any remaining dirt off of the mare, satisfied with her quick progress. She glanced at her watch. 5:07. Huh. So she had taken more than half an hour. Thirty seven minutes, to be exact.
“You want to go for a little ride on the trails, Jules, sweetie?” She asked her horse, packing up her grooming kit, heading off to put it back into its original place. Her 14.2 hands high equine, whinnied, a definite indirect yes. “Of course you'd want one, you restless snowball,” she laughed.
An unmistakable snort came out of the equine, and JJ chuckled again and patted the horse's back. “Let's get you saddled up.” She told the mare, grabbing the saddle hanging from the rails.
